PAC contains a high concentration of carboxymethyl groups and a small amount of sodium chloride, which enables it to provide several functional benefits, including reduced filtration loss and improved resistance to calcium and magnesium ions. These properties support its use across various drilling and industrial applications.PAC is generally available as a white or yellow, odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic powder. It is readily soluble in water and can be used in brine-based mud systems, seawater drilling, and freshwater drilling applications. Polyanionic cellulose polymer is also used as a thickening agent, stabilizer, colloid protector, suspending agent, and rheology modifier. PAC is insoluble in most organic solvents and is hygroscopic in nature. The material exhibits high stability at elevated temperatures and excellent tolerance to saline conditions, making it suitable for demanding drilling environments. In addition, certain PAC formulations can provide antimicrobial properties. PAC also offers effective fluid-loss control, filtration resistance, and high-temperature tolerance across a wide range of applications. The polyanionic cellulose polymer market is broadly segmented into two types: high-viscosity and low-viscosity PAC. Viscosity refers to a fluid's resistance to flow. A highly viscous fluid has greater internal resistance and therefore flows more slowly than a low-viscosity fluid.
High-viscosity PAC is characterized by high and stable Brookfield viscosity across different operating conditions. It functions as an effective viscosity modifier and fluid-loss-control agent, providing strong rheological performance and filtration control. However, its higher viscosity can limit its suitability for certain applications where lower fluid resistance and easier processing are required.Low-viscosity PAC is generally characterized by a lower resistance to flow and reduced friction within the fluid system. Its molecular structure allows it to disperse more easily and maintain relatively lower viscosity levels during movement. Low-viscosity PAC is therefore suitable for applications requiring effective fluid-loss control without significantly increasing the overall viscosity of the drilling fluid. Although gases also exhibit viscosity, their behavior differs from that of liquids and is generally more difficult to observe under conventional conditions.

COVID-19 IMPACT
Rising COVID-19 Cases Generated Limits onto Several Supply Chains
The monotonous increasing coverage of the COVID-19 virus, led to a worldwide pandemic and started a trend of diminishing demand levels and undesirable inspirations onto countless industries and their markets. Moreover, the unprecedented rise in COVID-19 cases also created a range of challenges for the world economy. Insensitively, the growth of COVID-19 was increasing and instigated a rigid and harsh lockdown, which commanded several businesses to introduce awful budget cuts for survival and framing disasters in the products distribution channels. Furthermore, restrained activities such as shutting down of work places did negatively stimulate the supply quantities of the product, as decreasing supply volumes were noted in the global water-based drilling fluids and overall in the polyanionic cellulose polymer market.
LATEST TRENDS
Procurement of Offshore Oil and Gas Fields on the Rise
In the pursuit for hydrocarbons to certify productive and efficient extended period supply of, crude oil, natural gas, petroleum examination. Furthermore, manufacturers have been planning to obtain and cultivate offshore oil and gas fields in rooted areas, as well in unsuitable offshore environments. Moreover, this recent trend has been transforming into a positive stimulation in the demand for polyanionic cellulose polymer, as it has substantial applications in diverse industries such as to varying drilling fluid substances in intentions of guarantying efficient oilfield use in applications. Hence, give rise to higher demand from consumers in the water-based drilling fluids market and other end using industries.
- According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), offshore oil and gas drilling projects rose by 7.2% in 2023, driving higher demand for PAC polymers in water-based drilling fluids.
- The International Desalination Association (IDA) reported that global desalination capacity exceeded 110 million cubic meters per day in 2023, boosting the need for PAC in water treatment applications.
